Casper, Wyo. – Much of Wyoming is under a Red Flag Warning Sunday, as dangerously low humidity and gusty winds raise the risk of fast-moving wildfires across central, southwest, and north-central regions.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne and Riverton, the Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 8 p.m. MDT and includes Fremont, Natrona, Carbon, Sweetwater, Lincoln, Sublette, Hot Springs, Washakie, and Uinta counties, among others. Winds from the west could reach 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, while humidity dips as low as 10% in some zones.

Communities from Casper and Rock Springs to Worland and Rawlins are most at risk, especially in exposed foothill areas like South Pass and mountain corridors such as the Ferris and Owl Creek ranges. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to mid-90s in the lower elevations.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to avoid using machinery that could spark dry grass. If a fire starts, officials warn it may spread rapidly and behave unpredictably.

The warning expires at 8 p.m., but additional advisories are possible if dry, breezy conditions persist.
