Orchard Park, New York – Commuters across Southern Erie and Wyoming counties are facing another punishing round of lake effect snow as narrow but intense snow bands continue to stall over western New York, creating slick roads and sharply reduced visibility through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until early Friday afternoon for Wyoming and Southern Erie counties. The most persistent bands are capable of producing an additional 8 to 14 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 40 mph leading to significant blowing and drifting. These conditions are expected to impact both the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

Travel has become increasingly hazardous along Route 219, Route 39, and secondary roads near Orchard Park, Springville, and Warsaw, where snowfall rates may quickly overwhelm plowing efforts. Visibility can drop to near zero with little notice under the heaviest bands, making travel very difficult at times. Officials urge drivers to avoid unnecessary trips, slow down, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.

Looking ahead, the region is not done with winter weather. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Monday evening, signaling the potential for another round of widespread heavy snow. Additional advisories or warnings may be issued as confidence increases, and residents are encouraged to monitor updates and complete preparations before conditions worsen again.
