Cheyenne, WY – Strong winds are expected to impact southeastern Wyoming through Saturday morning, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to maintain a High Wind Warning for multiple areas, including the South Laramie Range and Central Laramie County.
According to the NWS in Cheyenne, west-southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, will persist in the South Laramie Range and Foothills—affecting locations such as Buford, Vedauwoo, and the Interstate 80 Summit—until 8 a.m. MST Saturday. In Central Laramie County, including Cheyenne, similar wind conditions are expected from 5 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday.
The primary concern is transportation safety, as strong crosswinds could be hazardous for lightweight or high-profile vehicles, including campers and tractor-trailers. Officials urge drivers, particularly those on Interstate 80, to use caution.
A High Wind Warning signifies sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts exceeding 58 mph, which can cause property damage and hazardous travel conditions.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and prepare for potential travel disruptions.
