Cheyenne, WY – A strong Arctic storm system will sweep across Wyoming from November 28–30, bringing heavy snow, fierce winds, and dangerous cold through the Black Friday weekend. The pattern could make travel extremely hazardous, particularly across southern and central corridors along I-25 and I-80.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Cheyenne and Riverton, a moderate to high risk of heavy snow exists statewide, with totals of 6–12 inches possible across the southern and central mountains and 4–8 inches in the plains. Gusts up to 50 mph may cause near-whiteout conditions and drifts several feet deep in open country.

According to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, travel disruptions are expected late Friday through Sunday morning, especially over South Pass, Elk Mountain, and the I-80 summit west of Laramie. Blowing snow and wind chills between –10°F and –25°F could make extended outdoor exposure dangerous.

Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel, prepare vehicles with winter supplies, and ensure livestock and outdoor pets are protected. Power interruptions and icy secondary roads are possible into Sunday as temperatures plunge well below freezing statewide.
