Cheyenne, Wyo. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across southeastern Wyoming and western Nebraska Sunday afternoon, bringing a threat of large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall during the late-day hours. The most intense storms are likely between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., creating dangerous travel conditions and potential power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, scattered storms will build in strength through the afternoon, with some capable of producing hail larger than golf balls and wind gusts topping 60 mph. Heavy downpours could also lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Communities including Cheyenne, Torrington, Scottsbluff, and Sidney are in the zone of greatest concern. Motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the peak storm window, secure outdoor items that could become airborne in strong winds, and remain indoors during lightning activity.

Storms are expected to weaken later in the evening, but additional thunderstorm chances remain possible early next week.
