Wrightwood, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Tuesday for the Eastern San Gabriel Mountains and the Northern Ventura County Mountains, with several inches of accumulating snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard.

Forecasters report that snowfall will continue through Tuesday, with 5 to 10 inches expected above 7,000 feet, and 2 to 5 inches between 5,000 and 7,000 feet. Communities including Wrightwood, Mount Baldy, Mount Wilson, Lockwood Valley, Mount Pinos, and areas along the Angeles Crest Highway will see the greatest impacts. In addition to snow, southwest wind gusts up to 40 mph could reduce visibility due to blowing snow.

According to NWS Los Angeles, the combination of accumulating snow and gusty winds will make travel difficult at times, particularly through mountain passes and higher-elevation roadways. The hazardous conditions may affect both the Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening commutes, increasing the risk of delays, chain controls, and temporary closures along mountain routes.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use extreme caution, and stay current on California 511 road information. Chains may be required at various times as conditions change rapidly with elevation. Even lighter accumulations in the 5,000 to 6,000-foot range can create slippery roads, while higher elevations will see heavier snowfall and possible drifting due to wind.

Snow showers are expected to diminish late Tuesday night, though cold temperatures and slick conditions may linger into early Wednesday. Travel impacts may persist in shaded areas or on untreated mountain roads.

NWS Los Angeles encourages residents and travelers to remain alert for updates as the winter weather event continues across Southern California’s high terrain.
