Woodridge, IL – The villages of Woodridge and Lisle will come together Thursday morning to honor the victims and heroes of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during their annual remembrance ceremony.

According to the Village of Woodridge, the event will take place at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Kagann Plaza/Town Centre, 5 Plaza Drive in Woodridge. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside William F. Murphy Jr. Village Hall, located at the same address.

The ceremony will include the posting of the colors by the Woodridge and Lisle Police Departments, the singing of the National Anthem, an invocation, and a moment of silence observed at 8:46 a.m.—the exact time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Other elements include a 21-gun salute by the Woodridge Police Department and VFW Post 1578, a bell ceremony led by Deputy Chief Scott Gray of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department, a bagpipe performance of “Amazing Grace,” and “Taps” played by Liam Hardage.

Village of Woodridge Mayor Gina Cunningham will provide remarks, and the program will conclude with closing words from Officer Tom Hogan of the Woodridge Police Department.

Community members are encouraged to attend the service, which has been held annually by the two villages as a way to reflect, remember, and honor those who lost their lives, as well as the first responders who answered the call on September 11, 2001.
