ROCKWOOD, TN. – Severe winds caused a dugout roof to be ripped off at the Brillo Miller Sports Complex in Rockwood on Saturday, resulting in the death of a woman and the injury of a 33-year-old man.

The incident occurred during the opening ceremonies for a kid’s baseball and softball season. Witnesses described chaos as the roof fell on the woman and the man. “Kids were screaming, people were screaming. It was just crazy,” said Tiffany Brown, a softball parent and  witness.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. The man was also injured, but his condition has not been released.

While softball signups are underway across the US, players are more focused on in game injuries, not spectators.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those individuals and their families,” said Rockwood Police Chief Kelly Pittman in a statement.

The incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of safety at sporting events, and officials are urging parents and coaches to take precautions to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
