Glen Ellyn, IL – A Hanover Park woman faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing over $20,000 worth of jewelry from three clients’ homes while employed as a cleaning woman. Sandy Hernandez, 38, was charged with three counts of Residential Burglary, a Class 1 Felony, after a thorough investigation led authorities to her arrest.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the thefts occurred between November 2024 and January 2025. The first incident was reported on December 2, 2024, when a Glen Ellyn resident discovered that jewelry, including a Cartier ring, had been stolen from her home. On January 5, 2025, another Glen Ellyn resident reported the theft of jewelry valued at approximately $10,000, and a third incident was reported on January 15, 2025, involving stolen items worth around $2,500.

Investigators linked Hernandez to the crimes, alleging she took advantage of her access to the homes during cleaning visits. Hernandez was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon without incident.

At Hernandez’s first court appearance, Judge Joseph Bugos denied the State’s motion to detain her before trial. As part of her release, Hernandez is prohibited from working in positions that involve entering private residences and is ordered to have no contact with the victims.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the need for caution when hiring cleaning services, advising homeowners to thoroughly vet employees, check references, and ensure proper insurance coverage.

Hernandez’s next court date is set for May 5, 2025.
