Glasgow, Montana – Blizzard conditions with wind gusts up to 60 mph will create dangerous travel across northeast Montana from 2 p.m. Tuesday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the US National Weather Service in Glasgow, a winter storm will bring widespread snow and strong west to northwest winds across the region this afternoon and tonight. Blowing and drifting snow are expected to significantly reduce visibility, at times creating whiteout conditions.
Communities including Glasgow, Wolf Point, Scobey, Plentywood and Malta are under a Blizzard Warning. Areas farther south, including Glendive and Sidney, are included in winter weather headlines as strong winds and snow continue.
Forecasters warn that strong northwest winds will persist into Wednesday, prolonging blowing snow even after steadier snowfall tapers. Snow drifts may accumulate across open highways and rural roads.
Travel along US Highway 2, Montana Highway 13, Montana Highway 16 and Interstate 94 could become extremely hazardous. Rapidly changing visibility and drifting snow may make some stretches impassable, especially in open country.
The National Weather Service cautions that nighttime hazards can be difficult to see and travel is strongly discouraged during peak storm conditions.
Rural residents, truck drivers and commuters should prepare for extended travel delays and potential road closures. Power disruptions are also possible if strong winds combine with heavy snowfall.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 5 p.m. Wednesday as winds weaken.
Residents are urged to monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period.
