Frost glistens across windshields and open fields around La Crosse this morning, the air sharp and still at 17°F. The Mississippi River valley rests under a pale blue sky now, but another quick-hitting system is set to stir up fresh flakes by early week.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, light snow will develop late Monday and continue into Tuesday, bringing 1 to 3 inches across parts of western Wisconsin. Roads may become slick and snow-covered, especially north of Interstate 90, where bursts of heavier snow are possible Tuesday morning.
Temperatures remain stubbornly cold, holding in the teens at night and barely climbing above 37°F by Tuesday afternoon before dipping again by midweek. Winds out of the south at 20–25 mph could lead to brief blowing snow, reducing visibility for commuters and school traffic.
Residents should plan extra travel time Monday night into Tuesday, particularly for early-morning routes. Untreated side streets and rural highways could see patches of black ice where melting occurs during the day and refreezes after sunset.
Looking ahead, another weak system may clip the region around December 11–17, potentially reinforcing a colder, snowier pattern across the Great Lakes as Arctic air pushes south. Meteorologists say long-range models hint at sustained below-normal temperatures, marking an early start to the deep winter chill for Wisconsin.
