Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin – Snow and 35 mph wind gusts could rapidly reduce visibility across Door County by early afternoon Tuesday, threatening the evening commute with blowing and drifting snow.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday for Door County, including Sturgeon Bay, Fish Creek and Sister Bay. Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of accumulation, with snowfall rates between one-half inch and 1 inch per hour for a 2- to 4-hour stretch this afternoon.
Highway 42 and Highway 57 may become snow-covered quickly once heavier bands move in. Gusty winds up to 35 mph will blow snow across open stretches and along the Lake Michigan shoreline, sharply lowering visibility and creating drifting in rural areas. Bridges and elevated roadways could turn slick within minutes during the heaviest bursts.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check Wisconsin 511 for updated road conditions before heading out. Snow intensity will ease after 6 p.m., but patchy blowing snow and icy spots may linger into the night as temperatures remain below freezing.
