Green Bay, Wisconsin – Freezing rain and mixed winter precipitation are expected to impact travel across much of eastern and central Wisconsin beginning Thursday evening, prompting multiple Winter Weather Advisories ahead of the Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, advisories will take effect between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. CST Thursday and remain in place through Friday morning, with expiration times ranging from 6 a.m. to noon CST, depending on location.

Affected areas include Vilas, Oneida, Forest, Florence, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Wood, Portage, Waushara, Brown, Door, Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, Kewaunee, Calumet, Manitowoc, and Winnebago Counties, among others. Communities impacted include Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau, Stevens Point, Rhinelander, Antigo, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Manitowoc, and Wisconsin Rapids.

Forecasters expect freezing rain and mixed precipitation, with ice accumulations generally up to one tenth of an inch, and locally up to two tenths of an inch north of Highway 29. Some areas may also see light snow or sleet accumulations up to one inch, particularly in northern counties.

The National Weather Service warns that roads, bridges, sidewalks, and overpasses could become slick and hazardous, creating difficult driving conditions during the Friday morning commute. Ice accumulation on power lines may also lead to isolated power outages.

Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor road conditions closely. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation recommends checking current conditions by calling 511 before traveling.

Winter Weather Advisories are issued when conditions are expected to cause travel difficulties and minor infrastructure impacts, particularly during high-traffic periods.
