Milwaukee, WI – Southern Wisconsin residents should brace for slick conditions today as freezing rain and a wintry mix blanket the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) expanded its Winter Weather Advisory to include all counties except those along Lake Michigan, warning of icy spots on roads and sidewalks.

According to the NWS, freezing rain will likely begin west of I-90 this morning before spreading eastward by mid-afternoon. Precipitation will transition to all rain by midnight as temperatures rise into the mid-30s. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, as a glaze of ice is expected to accumulate, especially in southwestern areas.

Rain will continue into Sunday morning, with temperatures reaching the low 40s. Gusty southeast winds up to 25 mph will add to the hazardous conditions. The NWS highlights the risk of black ice on untreated surfaces, particularly during overnight hours when temperatures hover near freezing.

Looking ahead, Monday offers some relief with drier weather and highs in the upper 30s. However, snow chances return late Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing the potential for minor accumulations.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and consider delaying travel today until roads improve. Salt crews are actively treating highways, but conditions may remain treacherous.
