Green Bay, WI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Vilas County and surrounding regions through 6 a.m. Thursday, as heavy snow and strong winds make travel hazardous.
The National Weather Service forecasts total snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches across northern Wisconsin, with the highest amounts expected in Vilas County. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile at times. These conditions are likely to disrupt travel on major routes, including Highway 45, especially during the evening and morning commutes.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel as conditions deteriorate Wednesday afternoon and evening. Those who must be on the roads should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight. Road crews are working to clear highways, but ongoing snowfall and high winds may limit their effectiveness.
The hazardous weather is expected to subside by Thursday morning, though roads may remain icy. Power outages are possible due to the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds. Residents should prepare for disruptions and stay updated with local weather alerts.
