Green Bay, WI – A powerful winter storm is sweeping through central and northeast Wisconsin, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. The storm is expected to last through early Thursday morning, with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour and wind gusts up to 45 mph.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Green Bay, the heaviest snowfall will impact areas north and west of the Fox Valley, including Laona, Antigo, and Wausau, where totals could reach 8-12 inches. Snow is expected to intensify Wednesday afternoon and evening, significantly reducing visibility and creating treacherous road conditions.
Gusty northerly winds will compound travel difficulties, causing blowing snow and sporadic power outages. Motorists are urged to use caution, especially during the evening commute. Travel conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate after sunset in the Fox Valley and lakeshore areas.
The NWS has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for the region, advising residents to monitor forecasts and prepare for possible disruptions. Those traveling should check road conditions at 511wi.gov and allow extra time for travel.
This late-season storm is expected to taper off by early Thursday morning, with improving conditions later in the day.
