Baraboo, Wisconsin – Heavy snow will begin around midnight and intensify overnight, creating hazardous road conditions across Sauk, Iowa, and Lafayette counties before the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from midnight to noon CST Friday. Snow totals will range from 4 to 8 inches, with the highest amounts likely in northwest portions of the counties. Wind gusts will reach 30 to 40 mph, reducing visibility and blowing snow across roadways.
Roads may become snow-covered before sunrise.
Major routes including US-151, US-12, and Highway 23 could see rapid accumulation overnight, especially near Baraboo, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, and Reedsburg. Gusty winds may create brief whiteout conditions in open areas, slowing traffic and increasing the risk of spinouts.
The Friday morning commute will be significantly impacted.
Residents should delay nonessential travel and check Wisconsin 511 for updated road conditions. If travel is necessary, keep emergency supplies in your vehicle, including food, water, and a flashlight.
Snow will taper late Friday morning, but blowing snow may linger through midday. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon CST Friday.
