Green Bay, WI – A powerful winter storm continues to impact northern and central Wisconsin, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions through Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for multiple counties, including Vilas, Oneida, Marathon, and Portage, in effect until 6 PM CST.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Green Bay, additional snowfall of 4 to 8 inches is expected, with the highest totals near the Upper Michigan border. Winds are gusting up to 45 mph, causing significant blowing and drifting snow, leading to whiteout conditions in open areas.
The storm is making travel extremely hazardous, particularly during the morning and evening commutes. Authorities warn that roads may become impassable, with visibility dropping to near zero at times. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation urges drivers to check road conditions via 511 before traveling and to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight.
In central Wisconsin, lingering rain transitioned to snow early Wednesday morning, intensifying throughout the day. The strong winds could also bring downed tree branches and localized power outages.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. For the latest weather updates, visit weather.gov/greenbay.
