Duluth, MN – A powerful winter storm is set to impact northern Wisconsin from late Tuesday evening through Wednesday, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for multiple counties, including Douglas, Bayfield, Washburn, Sawyer, and Price. Snowfall totals in these areas could range from 3 to 7 inches, with winds gusting up to 40 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow. In Ashland and Iron counties, heavier snowfall is expected, with accumulations between 6 and 11 inches, particularly in northern Iron County. Winds could reach 45 mph, potentially causing downed tree branches and isolated power outages near Lake Superior.

A mix of rain and snow is forecast for Tuesday evening before transitioning into all snow overnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, tapering off by the afternoon. The combination of snowfall and strong winds could reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile at times, making travel treacherous.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, delay travel if possible, and prepare for sudden changes in visibility. For updated forecasts and safety information, visit www.weather.gov/dlh/winter.
