La Crosse, WI — A winter storm is bringing heavy snow and slippery road conditions to western Wisconsin today, creating hazardous travel along Interstate 94 and nearby highways. Drivers are urged to proceed with caution as 3 to 5 inches of snow accumulation is expected by tonight.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 a.m. Friday. Snow will persist through Thursday evening, with gusts reaching 24 mph, leading to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Areas north of La Crosse could see higher totals, while southern parts may experience lighter accumulations of 1 inch or less.
By Friday, conditions will improve as skies clear and temperatures reach a high near 25°F, though strong winds of up to 23 mph will keep wind chills low. Saturday brings calmer weather with partly sunny skies and a high of 21°F. Sunday’s forecast calls for sunshine and a slight warm-up to 28°F.
Drivers should check road conditions before heading out, especially near I-94 and surrounding areas. Emergency officials recommend slowing down and allowing extra travel time. Residents should also prepare for possible delays and plan accordingly.
Looking ahead, snow chances return Monday with a 50% chance of accumulation, followed by a quiet Christmas Day featuring mostly sunny skies and highs near 37°F.
