Madison, WI – A major winter storm continues to unfold across southern and eastern Wisconsin, where Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect until 6 AM Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Milwaukee/Sullivan. Heavy snow, deteriorating roads, and dangerous afternoon and evening travel are expected across the region.

Snowfall totals of 8 to 12 inches are forecast for south-central and southeast Wisconsin, including Marquette, Green Lake, Sauk, Columbia, Iowa, Dane, Jefferson, Lafayette, Green, Rock, Walworth, Racine, and Kenosha Counties. Cities impacted include Madison, Janesville, Beloit, Lake Geneva, Monroe, Dodgeville, Portage, Racine, and Kenosha.

A second warning covers east-central and southeast Wisconsin—including Fond du Lac, Sheboygan, Dodge, Washington, Ozaukee, Waukesha, and Milwaukee—where 8 to 11 inches are expected. Communities such as Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Waukesha, Brookfield, West Bend, Mequon, and Milwaukee will see heavy snow beginning early this morning and continuing throughout the day.

The heaviest snowfall is anticipated this afternoon and evening, coinciding with peak weekend travel. Roads will become snow-covered quickly, and visibility may drop sharply during heavier bursts. NWS warns that travel could be very difficult, especially on interstates including I-90/94, I-39, I-41, and I-43, and major corridors into Milwaukee.

Snow will taper toward daybreak Sunday, but untreated roads and slick conditions will linger.

Officials urge residents to delay travel where possible. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies—food, water, a flashlight, blankets, and a fully charged phone—and allow extra travel time. Statewide road conditions are available by calling 511.
