Green Bay, WI – A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 10 AM today through 6 AM Sunday for a large portion of central, east-central, and northeast Wisconsin, where heavy snow is expected to significantly impact post-holiday travel, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Green Bay.
Forecasters call for 6 to 11 inches of total snow across the region, with locally higher amounts exceeding 12 inches possible along the Lake Michigan shoreline, particularly in Kewaunee and Manitowoc Counties. Snow will begin late this morning, intensifying during the afternoon and evening, when travel conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly.
The warning includes major communities such as Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Sturgeon Bay, Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Shawano, and surrounding towns. Snowfall rates this afternoon may reduce visibility to near zero at times, making travel very difficult.
Holiday travelers and hunters heading out early in the busy weekend should be prepared for snow-covered roads, slick conditions, and low visibilities—especially during the afternoon and evening peak snowfall window. Winds are not expected to be extreme but may contribute to minor blowing snow in open areas.
NWS advises residents and travelers to delay nonessential travel if possible. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies—such as food, water, blankets, a flashlight, and a shovel—in case of becoming stranded.
The storm will taper off late tonight into early Sunday, though untreated roads may remain slick into the morning hours. For real-time travel updates, drivers can call 511 for statewide road conditions.
