Madison, WI – Drivers across Wisconsin are facing challenging travel conditions Thursday morning as a winter storm moves through the state, bringing 2 to 5 inches of snow and widespread road coverage, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2025, many major highways—including stretches of I-90, I-94, and U.S. 151—are reported as partially or completely snow-covered, especially across central and northern Wisconsin. WisDOT urges motorists to drive with caution and avoid unnecessary travel where possible.

According to the latest 511wi.gov road conditions map, pink and blue routes indicate heavily impacted travel zones, spanning from La Crosse and Eau Claire through Wausau, Stevens Point, and Green Bay. Even southern routes near Madison and Milwaukee are seeing areas of light to moderate snow accumulation.

Officials advise drivers to clear all snow from vehicles, leave extra following distance, and stay patient around snowplows. “Drive for conditions—snow means slow,” WisDOT reminded in its update.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the morning, keeping roads slick into the early afternoon. Motorists should plan for additional travel time and check 511wi.gov for real-time updates before heading out.
