La Crosse, WI – Strong winds will develop across Wisconsin through Friday, with gusts near 40 mph expected by the end of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, wind speeds will increase by about 10 mph each day. By Friday, gusts over 40 mph will be likely west of the Mississippi River, with a 50-70% probability in some areas.

Northwest winds will reach 30 mph on Thursday and strengthen on Friday. The strongest winds will be in southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and western Wisconsin.

High temperatures will remain above normal through Friday, with highs in the mid-40s to low 50s. A cold front will bring cooler temperatures and a chance of rain on Friday.

Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for difficult travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Wind gusts could make driving hazardous on open highways.

The windy conditions will subside over the weekend as colder air moves in. Temperatures will drop into the 30s by Sunday, marking a return to more seasonal weather.
