Door County, WI – Swimmers should avoid Lake Michigan beaches in eastern Wisconsin today, as dangerous waves and strong currents threaten shoreline safety from Door to Ozaukee counties. Beach hazard advisories take effect at 9 a.m. and continue through this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, waves reaching up to 5 feet high and powerful currents pose significant risks. Among the hardest-hit areas are Rock Island State Beach, Baileys Harbor beaches, and Whitefish Dunes Beach in Door County. Additional areas of concern include Cresent Beach and City of Kewaunee Beach in Kewaunee County, and Point Beach, Neshotah Beach, and Red Arrow Beach in Manitowoc County.
Further south, the Milwaukee/Sullivan office of the National Weather Service emphasized particularly hazardous conditions along Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties, noting waves from 3 to 5 feet paired with dangerous currents. Beaches in Milwaukee and Racine counties will experience moderate risk conditions.
Officials urge beachgoers to remain out of the water and away from piers, breakwalls, and other structures where wave action could sweep individuals into deeper waters. Swimmers should heed posted warnings and remain vigilant as hazardous conditions persist through late Tuesday.
Beach advisories remain active until at least 7 p.m. Additional updates will be provided as conditions warrant.
