Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – Lake-effect snow continues to blanket northern Wisconsin late Friday night into Saturday, creating slippery and hazardous travel conditions across Vilas County and surrounding Northwoods communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Saturday for Vilas County. Additional snowfall of 2 to 4 inches is expected as lake-effect snow bands persist, particularly overnight and into the morning hours. Accumulating snow is continuing to coat roadways, especially on secondary roads and less-traveled routes.
Communities including Manitowish Waters, Presque Isle, Winchester, Conover, Lac du Flambeau, Arbor Vitae, and Boulder Junction are seeing snow-covered roads with reduced traction. Periods of steadier snowfall may briefly lower visibility, making driving more difficult at times.
Local officials urge drivers to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and use caution when traveling Saturday morning. Bridges, curves, and shaded areas are especially prone to becoming slick as temperatures remain cold.
Snow intensity is expected to gradually ease later Saturday morning as the advisory expires. Even as snowfall tapers, slick spots may linger into the midday hours. Motorists are encouraged to check 511 Wisconsin for the latest road conditions before heading out.
