Madison, WI — Southern Wisconsin is set to experience a dramatic drop in temperatures as a cold front moves in late Saturday, bringing rain and a brisk start to fall by Sunday. Drivers along I-94, I-43, and US-41 should prepare for potentially slick conditions as light showers develop throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the current quiet weather will hold through the end of the workweek, with highs ranging from 63°F to 83°F on Friday. However, by Saturday night, temperatures will drop, and rain is forecast to begin in southern Wisconsin, especially along major highways like I-94. This weather shift marks the start of fall, with highs falling into the mid-50s by Sunday and lows nearing 35°F.

Residents and travelers should expect fall-like conditions to continue through midweek. Sunday’s highs will struggle to exceed 60°F, with temperatures dipping into the 30s overnight. Columbus Day will be even cooler, with highs only reaching the low 50s and gusty winds making it feel colder, especially near Lake Michigan.

If you’re planning to travel, consider leaving early to avoid driving in wet conditions, especially Saturday night into Sunday. For outdoor events, including any holiday weekend festivities, it may be best to reschedule or prepare for chilly temperatures and possible showers.
