Milwaukee, Wis. – Southeastern Wisconsin closed out summer 2025 on a soggy note, with Milwaukee recording its second-wettest August on record and Madison finishing the season cooler than average.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, Milwaukee collected 8.94 inches of rain in August, more than five inches above normal. The bulk of that rainfall came in a two-day stretch between August 9–10, when more than 6.9 inches fell. Madison also saw a wet month, logging 4.76 inches, about six-tenths above normal.
Temperatures in both cities trended cooler than usual. Madison averaged 68.6°F for August, 1.1 degrees below its seasonal norm, while Milwaukee came in 2.2 degrees cooler than average. The lowest temperatures dipped into the 40s by August 31, a sharp shift from highs earlier in the month that reached 90°F in Madison and 94°F in Milwaukee.
The summer overall leaned wetter than usual across southern Wisconsin, with Madison receiving 16.36 inches of rain from June through August and Milwaukee totaling 16.25 inches. Both figures represent more than two inches above normal.
Residents are advised to stay alert for additional wet-weather impacts as September begins, as saturated soils could heighten flooding risks during early fall storms.
