LA CROSSE, Wis. – Western Wisconsin’s mild midweek stretch will take a damp turn as rain and gusty winds return by Friday. Drivers along I-90 and residents planning outdoor events should prepare for wet roads, breezy conditions, and cooler air moving in this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, Thursday will bring one more calm, pleasant day with highs near 68°F under partly sunny skies. Clouds will thicken late Thursday, followed by scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder developing Friday afternoon. South winds may gust near 25 mph, creating slick conditions for commuters and travelers heading east toward Tomah or west into Minnesota.

Friday’s temperatures will briefly reach the mid-70s before falling behind the approaching front. Showers will continue into Friday night before tapering early Saturday. The first half of Saturday looks damp, but improving weather is expected later in the day.

By Sunday, sunshine returns with highs in the upper 60s — ideal for pumpkin patch visits, leaf-viewing along the Mississippi, or early Halloween decorating. Early next week will bring crisp mornings and highs near 60°F, signaling the steady slide toward late fall.

Officials recommend checking local forecasts before Friday travel and securing outdoor decorations ahead of gusty winds. With cooler nights coming, homeowners should also protect plants and outdoor plumbing as frost risks grow next week.
