Milwaukee, WI – A bright, warm fall weekend will give way to unsettled conditions early next week as rain and possible thunderstorms move into southeastern Wisconsin. After several days of sunshine and highs in the 80s, showers are expected to spread across the area beginning late Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office, a chance of showers and thunderstorms develops Monday afternoon, with rain becoming more widespread Monday night into Tuesday morning. Rainfall totals could slow the morning commute, and forecasters note a 60 percent chance of precipitation Monday night, with locally heavy downpours possible.

Sunday will bring the last stretch of warmth, with highs near 81 under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will add to an unseasonably mild feel for early October. Conditions change quickly Monday as cooler air filters in behind the rain. Temperatures will struggle to climb beyond the upper 60s by Tuesday, and overnight lows will dip into the 40s by midweek.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation urges drivers to allow extra time on I-94, I-43, and local roads during the wet period Monday night into Tuesday morning. Reduced visibility and slick pavement may cause travel delays. Residents are encouraged to clear storm drains, check sump pumps, and keep devices charged in case of isolated power outages. Outdoor plans and sports practices should shift earlier in the weekend to avoid weather disruptions.

After Tuesday’s showers, conditions turn drier and cooler through midweek, with highs in the low 60s.
