Milwaukee, WI – Wisconsin is bracing for some of the most severe cold in the Midwest as an Arctic Blast sweeps across the region from Monday, Dec. 1 through Friday, Dec. 5, locking in a harsh Cold December pattern characterized by snow showers, single-digit temperatures, and dangerous subzero wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances tied to the incoming Arctic air mass will generate light snow and flurries across southern Wisconsin, with steadier snow showers likely in central and northern counties. Lake-effect bands may also impact areas along Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, reducing visibility at times.

Temperatures will fall into the single digits, with below-zero readings possible across northern Wisconsin during the coldest nights. Forecasters warn that wind chills may plunge between –10°F and –25°F, especially across central and northern regions where the cold will be most intense. Milwaukee and southern Wisconsin may experience wind chills from –5°F to –15°F during early-morning periods.

NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook places Wisconsin in one of the deepest below-normal anomalies nationwide for Dec. 1–5, consistent with the powerful Arctic surge pressing through the Upper Midwest. Light snow chances will continue through midweek as northwest winds maintain a steady feed of cold air.

Though no major winter storm is currently forecast, the combination of subzero wind chills, patchy snow, and icy travel conditions may create hazardous situations statewide. Forecasters advise residents to use caution and stay updated with the latest NWS alerts.
