Duluth, MN – Rain and thunderstorms are set to drench northwestern Wisconsin starting Wednesday morning, with the heaviest totals expected inland through Thursday night—potentially triggering localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the best chance for 1 to 2 inches of rainfall will be along and south of Wisconsin Highway 77, with a 60% to 80% probability of 2+ inches south of Highway 70, especially near Spooner, Hayward, and Prentice. These areas could experience ponding of water and minor flooding in low-lying spots.

Communities including Solon Springs, Ashland, and Park Falls could see 1-inch rainfall probabilities ranging from 30% to 69%, while Pine City and Sandstone, MN, are also in the zone for significant precipitation. Travel may be impacted on regional highways, and residents are advised to clear drains, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and secure outdoor belongings.

Rain chances drop briefly Friday before increasing again Saturday into Sunday, when another round of storms—possibly strong to severe—could affect the Northland.

Warnings remain in effect through Thursday night, with another update expected by Wednesday morning.
