Green Bay, Wis. – Periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms could drench parts of central and northern Wisconsin through Thursday night, with localized flooding likely in low-lying urban areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the heaviest rain is expected to arrive in two waves—first Wednesday afternoon and evening, followed by a lull, then a second, stronger round Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. Rainfall totals between 1.5 to 3 inches are possible in areas like Wausau, Rhinelander, and Shawano.

Strong wind gusts up to 60 mph may accompany storms Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., especially in cities along the I-39 corridor including Stevens Point, Portage, and Oshkosh. A marginal risk for severe weather has been issued, with isolated hail up to 1 inch and brief downpours that could overwhelm storm drains.

Residents should monitor river levels, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and ensure phones and backup power sources are charged in case of outages. The NWS advises multiple methods of receiving warnings as storms could develop quickly.

Flood and thunderstorm alerts remain in effect across the region through Thursday night, with additional advisories possible.
