Wisconsin – Headlights glow dimly through thick, icy fog across northeast Wisconsin this morning as freezing moisture clings to roads, bridges, and sidewalks. Visibility drops suddenly, and pavement that looks wet may already be slick.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through mid-morning for much of the region, including Brown, Winnebago, Outagamie, and Manitowoc counties. Visibility may fall to a quarter mile or less at times. With temperatures near 29 degrees, freezing fog can coat untreated roads with ice, especially on overpasses and rural stretches.
Travel will slowly improve later this morning as fog thins. Conditions remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures climbing near 41 this afternoon. Rain arrives later today, adding fresh moisture to cold surfaces. Drivers along I-41 and Highway 172 should plan extra time and increase following distance.
Rain continues into tonight and may briefly mix with snow as temperatures hover in the mid-30s. While accumulation remains minimal at first, changing precipitation can worsen road conditions quickly. Gusty winds ease, but slick spots may linger after sunset.
Friday brings cooler air and spotty rain or snow early, then gradual clearing. Highs reach the upper 30s. Any melting during the day may refreeze after dark as lows fall into the mid-20s.
Attention then turns to the weekend. Another system approaches late Friday night into Saturday. Snow becomes more likely, with several inches possible across northeast Wisconsin. Travel impacts could increase quickly, especially Saturday afternoon and evening. Sunday stays cold, with lingering snow chances and highs near the upper 20s.
Slow down in fog this morning, use low beams, and watch for sudden icy patches. Looking ahead, prepare for winter driving by the weekend. Are roads slick where you are right now? Share what you’re seeing in Green Bay.
