Wisconsin — Frost coats cars and sidewalks along the Mississippi River this morning as western Wisconsin starts the day locked in deep winter cold.

La Crosse sits near 6 degrees early, with calm winds allowing the cold to settle into low-lying areas. Pavement looks dry, but shaded roads and untreated sidewalks remain slick from refreezing moisture. The cold feels sharp on exposed skin, especially during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, sunshine returns later today, helping temperatures recover into the mid-20s. Northwest winds pick up slightly by afternoon, keeping the air crisp. Melting is limited, and any moisture refreezes quickly after sunset.

Clouds increase tonight as the next weak system approaches. Temperatures drop near 15 degrees, and a light chance for snow develops after midnight. Accumulations remain minor, but even a dusting can create slick spots on bridges and ramps, especially along I-90 and river crossings.

Thursday brings a noticeable change. Clouds dominate early, with a small chance for light snow before sunrise. Temperatures climb sharply through the day, reaching the upper 30s by afternoon. Southwest winds strengthen, gusting over 20 mph at times, accelerating snowmelt and creating wet pavement.

Thursday night stays mostly cloudy with lows near 29 degrees. Refreezing becomes a concern late as winds ease.

Friday continues the warming trend. Sunshine breaks through, highs reach the upper 30s, and travel conditions improve overall. Standing water remains possible during the afternoon before temperatures fall into the teens Friday night.

Saturday turns cooler but quieter. Mostly sunny skies push highs near 31, with calmer winds. Saturday night stays mostly cloudy with lows in the low 20s. Sunday trends milder again, reaching near 38, and early next week looks even warmer as February loosens its grip.

Plan for icy mornings, wet afternoons, and refreezing nights. Are you already noticing snow melting in your neighborhood today?
