Wisconsin – Light snow coats roads and parking lots this morning as headlights glow through fog and mist across northeast Wisconsin. Even thin snow cover is enough to turn untreated pavement slick, especially during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through late morning for much of northeast Wisconsin. Snowfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with brief visibility drops below one mile during heavier bands. Snowfall rates may reach up to one inch per hour at times, compounding travel issues.
In Green Bay, De Pere, Appleton, and along I-41 and Highway 172, drivers should expect slowdowns and slippery stretches through midmorning. Bridges and ramps freeze quickly, and blowing snow may briefly obscure lane markings. Allow extra time and increase following distance if heading out.
Snow chances continue this afternoon and into Saturday, though additional accumulation appears lighter. Even so, repeated light snow can maintain slick conditions well beyond today. Crews may struggle to keep pavement fully clear as temperatures hover near freezing.
Saturday trends colder, with highs near the upper 20s. Saturday night plunges into the single digits, setting up a sharp cold snap. By Sunday, snow chances increase again, followed by bitter air moving in behind an Arctic front.
MLK Day Monday looks dry but brutally cold. Highs struggle near 4 degrees, and wind chills may drop between 20 and 35 below zero early next week. Frostbite can occur quickly in these conditions. Dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Winter remains firmly in control as January continues. Travel plans today and through the holiday weekend should stay flexible. Seeing slick roads or heavier snow bands? Share what conditions look like where you are.
