Green Bay, Wis. – Strong thunderstorms could develop across Wisconsin Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front pushes through, bringing the risk of damaging winds and heavy rain. The National Weather Service says the greatest threat window is between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., especially across northern parts of the state.
According to the NWS Green Bay office, a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) has been issued for much of Wisconsin. While widespread severe storms are not expected, a few could intensify with wind gusts reaching 40 to 60 mph. Small hail and brief downpours are also possible.
Areas from Superior and Hayward through Wausau and Green Bay are most likely to see the strongest storms. Drivers along U.S. 51 and Highway 29 should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, including sudden low visibility from heavy rain. Outdoor events and Friday evening commuters could face disruptions.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items that could blow away in strong winds, charge devices ahead of possible power outages, and have a way to receive weather alerts.
Storm chances taper late Friday night as the front shifts southeast. Additional weather advisories may follow if conditions change.
