Hurley, Wisconsin – Snow and gusty winds are expected to continue impacting Iron County in northern Wisconsin through the overnight hours, as the National Weather Service keeps a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory remains in place until 6 a.m. CST Wednesday for Iron County, including Hurley and nearby communities, as well as tribal lands in the northwestern area of the Lac du Flambeau Band.
Additional snowfall of up to two inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 35 mph, which may lead to areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility at times. While snowfall totals are modest, forecasters note that even light snow combined with gusty winds and cold pavement temperatures can create hazardous travel conditions.
The greatest impacts are expected during the Tuesday evening commute, when untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick. Drivers may encounter sudden changes in road conditions, especially on secondary roads and rural highways.
The National Weather Service warns that slippery road conditions are likely, and motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distances, and allow extra travel time. Visibility may briefly drop in heavier snow showers, particularly in open areas exposed to wind.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions by calling 511 or visiting www.511wi.gov for the latest updates before heading out.
For commuters, students, and overnight workers in Iron County, this system presents a short-duration but impactful winter travel hazard, particularly during evening and early morning hours. Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise Wednesday as snow tapers off.
Additional updates will be issued if conditions change.
