Milwaukee, WI – Headlights cut through swirling flakes and mist as southern Wisconsin wakes to icy roads and slick bridges under a Winter Weather Advisory this morning. A mix of light snow and freezing rain has created slippery conditions from Sheboygan to Milwaukee and west toward Waukesha and Washington Counties, where additional snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible.
Winds gusting near 35 mph will make travel difficult on exposed stretches of I-43 and I-94, especially through the morning commute. Road crews are treating surfaces, but black ice may persist where freezing drizzle and snow overlap. Drivers should slow down and allow extra braking distance through mid-morning.
As this system moves out later today, temperatures will plummet under clearing skies. By Friday, a strong Arctic front sweeps across the state, ushering in some of the coldest air of the season. Wind chills between -15°F and -25°F are expected Friday night into early Saturday, a dangerous range for anyone outdoors without proper layers.
Meteorologists are tracking additional rounds of light snow possible late Friday into Saturday, with totals staying under an inch but enough to dust already icy surfaces.
