Wisconsin – Damp pavement glows under gray skies this morning as gusty winds whip across southeast Wisconsin. The air feels mild now, but winter hazards are lining up fast as moisture lingers and colder air pushes in.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, localized ice jams remain a concern on area rivers through the weekend. Patchy fog and freezing fog may develop late, especially where temperatures slip toward freezing. Visibility could drop quickly in low-lying areas and near waterways.

In Milwaukee, scattered rain fades as temperatures trend downward. Wet roads may refreeze later, creating slick conditions on bridges and untreated surfaces. Drivers along I-94, I-43, and Lake Parkway should stay alert for sudden changes, especially during early morning and late-night travel.

Snow chances increase Saturday. Light accumulating snow is expected, with less than an inch possible across much of the metro. Even minor snowfall could coat roads and sidewalks, especially with temperatures near freezing. Winds turn blustery, reducing visibility at times and making it feel colder than readings suggest.

Saturday night brings colder air and lingering snow chances. As skies slowly clear Sunday, temperatures struggle to climb above the low 30s. Any melting during daylight hours may refreeze after sunset, raising black ice concerns into early next week.

By Monday, conditions calm with more sunshine and highs near 40 degrees. Still, winter remains in control, and additional chances for rain or snow return later in the week as January continues.

Meteorologists urge residents to monitor river levels and watch for changing road conditions. Small systems can still create outsized travel issues this time of year.
