Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across eastern Wisconsin are dealing with slick, slushy roads Saturday morning as steady snow and gusty winds reduce visibility and slow travel from the Illinois border north toward Fond du Lac and Sheboygan.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the eastern half of the region until 1 p.m. CST. Snowfall rates have reached up to an inch per hour at times this morning, creating rapidly changing road conditions and poor visibility, especially during heavier bursts.
Snow totals are expected to range from 1 to 3 inches in the advisory area, with the greatest accumulation occurring through early afternoon. Winds gusting between 25 and 30 mph are adding to the challenge, blowing snow across highways and secondary roads. As temperatures cool later today and into tonight, untreated roadways could see areas of freezing and light icing.
The advisory covers Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Ozaukee, Washington, Jefferson, Dodge, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan counties. Slippery conditions are likely on major routes including I-94, I-43, and Highway 41, with slower travel expected through midday.
Motorists are urged to reduce speeds, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. Snow showers are expected to taper later tonight, but slick spots may linger into early Sunday, and additional advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
