Madison, Wis. – A line of strong storms sweeping across Wisconsin Sunday afternoon is expected to bring damaging winds and hail to much of the state through 9 p.m., prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 31 counties.
According to the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center, scattered storms are intensifying along a cold front moving across central and southern Wisconsin. The watch area includes cities from Madison and Fond du Lac to Green Bay and Marinette. Wind gusts could reach up to 65 mph, with isolated hail up to one inch in diameter.
Communities in Dane, Brown, Dodge, Outagamie, and Waupaca counties are urged to stay weather-aware. Travelers along I-90, I-39, and Highway 151 could encounter sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Outdoor events and power lines may also be affected as storms pass.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm activity, and ensure weather alerts are enabled on mobile devices.
Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but further advisories could be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local emergency alerts through the evening.
