La Crosse, WI – A line of strong spring thunderstorms is expected to impact southwest Wisconsin and northeast Iowa beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, bringing the threat of damaging winds, hail, and a possible brief tornado.
According to the US National Weather Service La Crosse, scattered severe storms will move across the region between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., with the highest risk focused over areas like Prairie du Chien, Platteville, and surrounding communities. Hail up to 1 inch in diameter and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph could accompany the storms as they push into southwest Wisconsin by midday.
The risk of a weak, isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, though forecasters emphasize it would be brief if it occurs. The storm system is expected to pass through quickly, with severe conditions lasting only a few hours in any given location.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather-aware, monitor alerts, and prepare to seek shelter if warnings are issued. Those with outdoor activities or travel plans during the morning and early afternoon should have a backup plan.
This system follows a pattern of active spring weather in the region, with similar threats common during seasonal transitions.
