Milwaukee, Wis. – Scattered thunderstorms could redevelop across southern Wisconsin late Saturday afternoon, with the potential for isolated severe weather depending on how much sunshine breaks through by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, cloud cover will play a critical role in storm intensity. If skies clear by early afternoon, increased sun will fuel redevelopment of storms between 4 and 9 p.m., peaking from 6 to 8 p.m. These storms could bring gusty winds, small hail, cloud-to-ground lightning, and heavy downpours.

Cities including Madison, Milwaukee, Janesville, and Waukesha lie in the area of concern, along with portions of Dodge, Jefferson, and Fond du Lac counties. Scenario 1 keeps skies overcast, which would suppress storm redevelopment. But if Scenario 2 plays out—with sunshine returning—the risk for damaging weather spikes.

Residents with outdoor plans should monitor the radar and have multiple ways to receive alerts. The risk of tornadoes and flooding remains low, but wind and hail are rated at a medium threat level.

Storm chances will taper off after 9 p.m. Saturday. Additional updates may follow if sky conditions shift this afternoon.
