Milwaukee, Wis. – Scattered thunderstorms and dangerously high heat index values are expected to impact much of southern Wisconsin Sunday, with the strongest storms and hottest conditions hitting areas northwest of Madison.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, heat index values will climb into the mid-to-upper 90s by early afternoon, peaking between 3 and 6 p.m. in cities like Madison, Janesville, and Watertown. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop northwest of the area around 5 p.m., then sweep eastward across south-central Wisconsin through the evening hours.
Stronger storms may bring gusty winds, particularly in counties like Sauk, Columbia, and Dodge. The most intense weather is expected between 5 and 9 p.m. for regions including Wisconsin Dells and Portage. By 11 p.m., storm activity should weaken as it reaches southeastern cities such as Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha.
Drivers should prepare for sudden downpours, reduced visibility, and the potential for wind-blown debris. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and have a safe shelter plan ready in case storms approach.
Scattered storm chances continue through tonight, with additional alerts possible as conditions evolve.
