La Crosse, Wisconsin – Rainfall totals across much of Wisconsin have been lowered for the weekend, as the heavier rain threat shifts south of Interstate 90 into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, lingering moisture from last night’s storms has mostly moved south, reducing the risk of flooding for cities like La Crosse, Black River Falls, and Tomah. Most areas north of I-90 should expect between a third of an inch to 1.5 inches of rain from scattered showers and storms through Saturday. Localized pockets south of I-90—including Prairie du Chien and Richland Center—could see up to 2 inches if storms develop “just right.”
Roadways such as US-61 and WI-27 may see brief ponding or minor flooding, especially during heavier downpours. Residents in Vernon and Crawford Counties are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid travel during periods of heavy rain. Charge mobile devices and prepare for brief power outages in rural areas, especially south of the interstate.
This event marks a shift from earlier forecasts, with most of the instability and deeper moisture staying to the south, similar to mid-June storm patterns. More showers are possible overnight, but the heaviest rainfall risk remains south of I-90. Updates and advisories may continue into Saturday if new storms develop.
