La Crosse, Wisconsin – A late-night rain and snow mix is expected to move across southeast Minnesota and central Wisconsin tonight, with most areas seeing little accumulation but localized slick travel still possible. While earlier concerns pointed toward heavier snowfall, warmer air near the surface has reduced expected totals for much of the region.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, rain will mix with and briefly change to snow overnight, mainly after mid-evening. Snowfall amounts are now expected to stay generally under one inch for most locations across southeast Minnesota and central Wisconsin. The exception remains areas north of Highway 29 in central Wisconsin, where several inches of snow are still possible as colder air holds longer.
Cities including La Crosse, Winona, Rochester, Eau Claire, and Black River Falls may see brief bursts of snow toward the overnight hours, but impacts should remain limited. Farther north toward Medford, Wausau, and Wisconsin Rapids, snow could accumulate more efficiently, leading to slushy or snow-covered roads by early morning.
Drivers are urged to monitor road conditions closely overnight, especially on secondary roads and bridges where localized slick spots may develop. Conditions should improve by morning in southern areas, though snow may linger longer in north-central Wisconsin. Additional updates are possible overnight if temperatures cool faster than expected.
