Wisconsin starts Monday under a low gray sky, with damp air clinging to roads and windshields. Tires hiss on wet pavement as winter reminds drivers it still controls the calendar.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, mixed precipitation continues early today across northeast Wisconsin. Freezing rain and freezing fog remain possible, especially on untreated roads and secondary streets. Temperatures hover near 31 degrees this morning, creating ideal conditions for black ice.

Through the day, Green Bay reaches the low 30s. Travel improves slightly by afternoon, but slick spots linger in shaded areas and on bridges. Drivers heading along I-41 and Highway 172 should stay alert, especially during the morning commute as schools and workplaces reopen.

Conditions grow more complicated tonight. Freezing rain becomes more likely toward early Tuesday, with patchy fog reducing visibility. Ice accumulations remain light, but even thin glaze can create dangerous travel. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking.

Tuesday brings another round of wintry mix. Snow and sleet may fall before rain develops by midday, then tapers later. Highs approach the mid-30s, but colder air returns by nightfall, refreezing moisture on roads.

Wednesday offers a brief break. Skies turn partly sunny with highs near 36. Snowmelt during the day could refreeze after sunset as lows dip into the 20s, keeping winter hazards active.

By Thursday and Friday, attention shifts again. Rain chances increase Thursday night, followed by a possible rain-to-snow change Friday into Friday night. While accumulations remain uncertain, meteorologists are tracking this system closely as January 2026 unfolds.

Winter travel hazards remain possible all week across northeast Wisconsin. Conditions may change quickly, especially during early mornings and after dark.
