Wisconsin – Snow sweeps sideways across highways this morning as wind howls off Lake Michigan, cutting visibility and coating roads during a critical stretch of year-end travel. Plows are already active, but conditions remain hazardous as winter tightens its grip across southeastern Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, a Winter Weather Advisory and Wind Advisory remain in effect through Monday evening. Snow totals of one to three inches are expected in Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and surrounding counties. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph and possibly higher near the lake, will cause blowing snow and rapid visibility drops.

Milwaukee is seeing light snow early, but impacts increase quickly through the morning commute. Travel along I-94, I-43, and I-41 is expected to remain slick, especially on north-south routes exposed to crosswinds. Officials warn of drifting snow, falling tree limbs, and isolated power outages as winds peak.

Temperatures remain locked in the low 20s today, with wind chills near or below zero at times. Any melting during daylight will refreeze quickly this evening, raising the risk of black ice as traffic picks up for late holiday trips. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking.

Snow tapers later tonight, but winter does not leave. Patchy blowing snow lingers into Tuesday morning, followed by additional light snow chances Tuesday and Wednesday. New Year’s Eve trends colder and quieter, while New Year’s Day 2026 looks dry but bitterly cold, with highs struggling in the teens.

This storm is part of a massive winter system impacting the Great Lakes, reinforcing winter’s hold as 2025 ends. Allow extra time, pack emergency supplies, and check road conditions before heading out. Seeing tough travel where you are this morning?
