Wisconsin – Light snow is expected to spread southward across much of southern Wisconsin today, creating locally slick travel conditions through the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, snow will begin expanding into the region between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., followed by a period of steady light snow from early to mid-afternoon. Snow is forecast to taper off from west to east between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Snowfall rates may briefly reach up to 0.25 inch per hour, particularly during the afternoon hours. Total snowfall amounts are expected to remain around 1 inch, with locally higher totals possible along the Kettle Moraine.
The light, dry nature of the snow combined with breezy northwest winds may allow accumulation on untreated roads, resulting in isolated slick spots. Impacts are expected to be most noticeable during the evening commute, especially on secondary roads, bridges, and overpasses.
Forecast probability data shows a 10 to 40 percent chance of exceeding 1 inch of snow across much of southern Wisconsin, increasing to 40 percent or higher in parts of east-central areas, including portions of Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Washington counties.
No winter storm warnings are in effect at this time, but motorists are encouraged to use caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time during periods of steady snowfall.
